WIWS: No Coats! :)

Yesterday and today have been incredibly mild after some of the weather we've been having this winter, and it's just been so wonderful! I think it's really all a tease, though, because apparently they're calling for snow come mid-week. (Whoever "they" are, I wish someone would cancel their long-distance calling plan. Dear Midwest, you can keep your snow for the rest of the winter. Thanks. Love, the East Coast)

So, we were able to head to mass without any coats today *flourish* (that's a shout-out to my fellow English majors) - what you see is what we wore, not even a scarf was needed! I'd pay money for more days like today in the near future...

...oh, AND Annie was relatively well-behaved at mass, thanks to her morning nap. Three cheers for actually recalling what the readings were due to minimal distraction!

Shoes: Ummmmm...Target? had them for years. They look kind of high schooler-ish...
Shirt: Talbot's.  Cardigan: LOFT.  Skirt: The Limited, brand new thrifted!
Annie's Dress: The Children's Place, thrifted.  Sweater: Carter's, thrifted.
She has very kissable cheeks, if you couldn't tell. ;)

Oh, and see all that grass in the background? Yeah. That was covered in 15 inches of snow just over a week ago. Our state is bi-polar when it comes to weather, no joke.

Okay, style question: have any of you ladies ever had partial highlights done to your hair? EVERY time I get my hair cut the stylist tries to tell me it would "brighten" my natural color up, and while I don't really care much what they think, I'm getting a little bored with it. I'm thinking of just getting a little lightness thrown in before summer, and as my hair lightens naturally then anyway, it will hopefully all just blend together as it grows out. When my hair is curly like this, it kind of looks highlighted, but I'm thinking of adding a little balayage action, like this:

brown to blonde balayage

Maybe not quite that light at the bottom. Anyway, I know nothing about this - I hear there are numbers involved and what have you - anyone have any tips? Tell your stylist this or that? I HATE the stripe-y, line-at-your-roots-as-it-grows-out highlights look, and my worry is that it will turn out like that. No thank you.

Annie's 1st birthday is coming up in just a couple of weeks, and I can't believe it! I'm not one to make a huge deal out of birthdays when they're so young, but do you have any favorite things you did for their early years? One of those growth chart "I love this, hate that, play with this" kind of things I could add to the great hypothetical baby book one day? Hand/foot prints to compare year by year? Pinterest just overwhelms me....

  1. Ok here goes!! A) I KNEW the minute you walked into mass after we did that I just had to check your blog this evening. I loved your outfit today (except the shoes but then my choice of shoes are always bling bling and way over the top)!! Shades of purple are definitely you!!
    B) Can't help you with the highlight quandary - I have had it done once and it was definitely the stripey look going on...
    C) As for the birthday memories and partying ... take a picture of Annie as she (most likely) attempts to grab and eat the lit candle.
PS: this is Alex - I am computer retarded and don't know how to change the ID name....

    1. Haha, I figured it was you, Alex - for one, Ron wouldn't use that many exclamation points, and I"d be worried if he had opinions and experience with fashion and hair coloring ;)

I know, the shoes are wretched, but they're fairly comfy. I was totally planning on wearing my pointy toe black Nine West heels, but I'm such a wimp now that I don't wear them daily for work, that just having them on for 5 minutes I was like, Mmmm, nope, totally twisting my ankle in these. Comfy it is.

Yea, I'm thinking I'll just strip her down to her diaper, stick her in her high chair, give her a cupcake and let the games commence :)

  5. Hopping on over from 7X7. I love your wedding profile photo.

I've done partial highlights before and as long as you don't go *too* light or too chunky a true painted highlight should grow out pretty nicely since it doesn't go all the way to the scalp to begin with. I've been thinking about similar things as I've done nothing to my hair except grow it out since I chopped it all off when I didn't know I was preggo with my son (3 years ago).

First birthday!! It's so fleeting I did a photo shoot with balloons and a chair. We did cupcakes instead of a smash cake since I'm SO horrible at birthdays, but I wanted those special photos. http://www.pinterest.com/pin/39758409182699906/ I did to a "stats" page in his baby book. It's amazing how you forget so fast how little they still are at 1 and it is fun to look back at it.

    1. Thanks Michaela! Awesome, it's great to hear from someone who's done highlights before. I know, I keep being tempted to chop all mine off, and then I remember that (a) my hubby likes it long *but it would grow back, right?* and (b) my wavy/curly hair is actually more maintenance short because I have to put product in it to make it curl nicely, or blow dry it out, none of this running out the door wet up-do business that it my current stand-by. *Sigh* Hence, the thought to highlight (and trim - it's amazing how much better it feels to have an inch or 2 taken off - fresh!)

Yeah, I was thinking of tying some balloons onto her high chair, but we also have a little rocking chair that has come down through my hubby's family - maybe I'll Pinterest it up and get creative with that. The picture of your little man is so cute! And I'm totally following you on Pinterest now, ha! Thanks again for the tips :)
