Walkin' on Broken Glass
Some days seem like they're doomed from the start.
You know, the days when you get up at 5:15 to make your hubby breakfast and lunch before his awful commute, and as you're reaching to put something away, you knock over a glass onto your granite countertop and it shatters.
So much for going back to bed in 3 minutes.
As I was painstakingly wiping down the counter and surrounding floor in my morning fog, I kept thinking, People think granite countertops and tile floors are the cat's meow - until you drop something breakable on them. Grrrr. And curses on the shiny flecks in this granite... is that glass? Wipe.Wipe.Wipe. For the 18th time.
And then, when it was all cleaned up, I stepped back and surveyed the scene. My countertop and floor haven't been this clean in weeks. So sometimes it's the small things. And sometimes God lets things go wrong as a challenge to us to make right come out of them, with His help and grace. Because honestly, if I were single and living alone, I might have left that glass there and gone back to bed for another 3 hours. But there is a husband and a crawling baby in this house, and glass shards just can't wait. My love for them (and, well, concern for my barefoot self, too) prompts me to deal with annoyances as they arise. I just pray I can do it gracefully.
So here I sit at said lovely counter, marveling at the lack of animal cracker crumbs and coffee stains, thanking God for small favors to start my day, and ... there goes a stinkbug.
Off to slay the foul beast.
Have a lovely day, friends - get out and enjoy some sunshine!
