What I Wore Sunday: Ode to Stripes

I remembered to have my hubby take a picture for the link up this week! It's pretty humid out there, thank God for air conditioning - most days start out hot and sunny and ramp up into a thunderstorm by dinner time. Taking advantage of the shadiness of the porch, again. Man, we really need some furniture out there, though. I dream of a porch swing across the end there, behind me, and rocking chairs. A porch necessity.

I found this skirt at TJ Maxx on Friday and it might be a new favorite - it's so hard to find maxi skirts/dresses long enough for this 5'12" frame - I've made a lot of my own dresses and skirts in the past, but life with a newborn finds me hard-pressed to find the time to dig out my machine and such. In fact, I wonder where my sewing box got stashed since we moved...hmmm.

Skirt: Design History at TJ Maxx; Shoes: Target, YEARS ago
Cardigan: Ann Taylor, thrifted; Baby: when a man and a woman love each other very much...
Tank: nursing; Necklace: from a friend whose jewelry I borrowed incessantly in college
I'm trying out the coral accessories in the forms of nail polish and lipstick. Still unsure about it, but I figured I'd have to give it a go someday. My makeup regime is down to powder and mascara, with the occasional dash of eyeliner if baby is sleeping, so I'm thinking to experiment more with a pop of color on my lips to jazz things up a bit. Advice on colors - what's your favorite? Or maybe a makeup pro can give me tips for what would work with my coloring?

Annie get's an A- for waking up during the homily and not staying pleasant for the rest of mass. I tried to nurse her out in the vestibule, but it's like a 3-ring circus back there at our parish, and she tends to be a sympathetic crier and fusses when other kids are fussing. I'll just have to try to remember that when she's older - I hope she behaves well! I try to get to daily mass with her in the hopes that she'll get more and more used to it and I will ultimately be able to address bad behavior earlier and more frequently. We shall see.

In other news, I missed quick takes on Friday but, here are some shots from our week:

Our blueberry buses are fruiting! I spent a good 45 minutes picking them the other day and getting some much-needed Vitamin D. They taste WAY better than our store-bought container (I'll be baking with those - muffins, anyone?)

I had no idea sweet peas grew on these vine-like stalks that just weave around and take over everything, and attract those monstrous carpenter bees - at least they're pretty!

My hubby, his dad and his brother have collaborated to build us that storage shed. *Huzzah!*

I love bread. Like, the REAL deal bread - not fluffy white Wonder bread. I also love toast, which is convenient when bread starts to go stale. A friend performed this at college with two forks and a toaster (not plugged in, of course):

Anyway, when I was little I used to think the lyrics to the song were "Tea, a drink with German bread..." Hey, it's logical, they were in Austria, and Julie Andrews has the most splendid British accent. After all, they pronounce deer as "dee-ah".

And lastly, an honest selfie with a hungry bambina:

  1. You look fabulous in the maxi skirt! As for your sweet little accessory...so very sweet.
I wish my blueberry bushes look as good as yours do. We had three, but now are down to one. I think we need to transplant them to a better spot. Also the deer usually get to them be fore I can pick the berries. Sigh. Yours look beautiful.

    1. Aw, thank you! I really can't take any credit for them - the former owners of the house planted, fertilized, pruned them - I just put up netting to keep the birds out!

  2. All those blueberries!!! We went blueberry picking this weekend and I think Andrew finally decided he likes blueberries, because now he wants to plant our own bushes just like yours :)

I can't believe you found a maxi skirt that's long enough! It would probably be a dress on me... You look great!

    1. I know, it's pretty bad - they're like nature's candy! Although I take comfort in the fact that they're ridiculously good for you : )

I was super excited! And thank you - well, any time you need a strapless dress feel free to invade my skirt stash, lol.
