Theme Thursday: B&W

Black & White photography is one of my favorite things. I think most people take pics in color and then edit them later, but occasionally I just take it in B&W. We now have a snazzy DSLR camera, but before that my little Canon digital camera served me well through college, especially during my semester abroad.

This girl is the bees knees.
Meet Maura. You wish you had her for a friend! This is a brief introduction, but among the MANY things I've learned from this lady is how to set my camera to take a B&W picture, and this was the first I took with that camera. We were on the balcony of our lodgings in Florence - we stayed at a convent for 2 weeks  while taking an intensive Italian course from one of the sisters, and that's Tuscany in the background.

I'll have to tell you more about Maura sometime: she lives every day striving after holiness and encouraging everyone she knows to do the same. She loves to laugh, loves her family, and is truly the embodiment of the quote from C.S. Lewis:

“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: 'What! You too? I thought I was the only one.'"

  1. Love the quote and the picture is perfect for it.

  2. Is it terrible that I have no idea how to make my camera shoot in black & white AND I had no idea it was even possible? Sigh... Still learning!

  3. I'm with Rosie - after a quick glance at my new (to me) digital camera, I didn't think it had a b&w setting. But after looking at all the b&w photos this week, I'm thinking it just has to be possible. Time to dig out ye ol' manual! :-) I so much prefer taking the photos in b&w as opposed to in color and then converting them!

  4. Y'all are a hoot. Mine cheats- it has a menu that tells you to push a button for b&w. BUT it won't let you combine b&w with anything else, so you can have macros OR B&W. So I love picmonkey, because they said, "Yes, you can!"

I love those kinds of friendships. They are the BEST, and truly the bees knees.
