Theme Thursday: Self Portrait

One of the best uses of some of our wedding gift $ was to treat ourselves to a DSLR camera, and let me tell you, this thing has already earned its stripes as one of our best and favorite investments. Both Michael and I love taking pictures, and as we figure out how to use this thing we've discovered a lot about our similarities and differences in how we approach life, and not just in photography! While much more detail-oriented than most guys I know, he's still much more "big picture", and I like the "detail" shots. We go together like peanuts and Paydays. (Points for the reference!)

Anyway, all this is to say that I INFINTELY prefer to be behind the lens than in front of it, so this week's theme is rather intimidating. I found a not-so-very-long-ago selfie shot of my other half and I, (which is the best kind of self-portrait I think), from our postponed honeymoon trip to Europe last fall.

This is us in Siena, Italy - excuse the image quality, we were trying to get a good pic on his phone, I think, or maybe the uber-camera wasn't functioning properly.

In  the spirit of the theme, however, FINE.This is the best you'll get from me this morning.

Raised eyebrow = really? This isn't my thing. *sigh*
Annie didn't want to be left out of the fun. How can you resist that face?!

Break out the lenses, ladies and link up some selfie fun over at Clan Donaldson!

  2. Looks like Annie's got a little bit of an eyebrow raise going on, too!

PS, my girls sang that song at their choir concert last night - one of my favorite lines :)

    1. Ha! I was thinking the same thing about the eyebrow- "Like mother, like ironically amused daughter"
      Thanks for linking up!

    2. Lol, didn't even notice that earlier! We're still trying to figure out whose eyes she has - the jury is out from day to day, we'll see how she grows into them :)

  3. I'm totally grooving on using the camera well to cover your face. I know people do it all the time, but you did it well. Like the camera became your nose and chin. It's like one of those sing-a-ma-jig dolls that sing "ooh" when you squeeze them, only you know with a camera. I kind of love it. It's fun.

And you know beautiful babies and honeymoon selfs are always fun too. :)

    1. Thanks! It served to cover my make-up-less face at that hour, haha - glad it turned out kind of creatively!

  4. Self portraits are so hard, or being photographed at all. Ironically, now that I'm old and gross, I really don't care any more. You are lov.ely, your whole family.

    1. Ha, thanks! A little embarrassed to say that I think I practiced it in the mirror back in HS, but I can do it with both the left and right, and it makes for a great incredulous look (usually accompanied by a healthy dose of sarcasm for good measure ')

  8. Both you girls are just beautiful! I will have to say, I think Annie looks more like you than your dashing husband.

    1. Aw, thank you! And really? You're one of the first! I think it's mostly her dark hair and ever-so-slightly-darker (read: more olive tones than reddish) skin tone, and the fact that her eyes are still that newborn dark blue, that people say she looks like Michael. I still don't know, it changes from day to day!
